The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Thursday (Aug 2) successfully test-fired a supersonic interceptor missile off the Odisha coast.
The missile was test-fired at 11.24 am at launchpad-4 of the Integrated Test Range on Dr Abdul Kalam Island.
The endo-atmospheric Advanced Air Defence (AAD) interceptor missile is a part of India’s Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD).
The 7.5-metre-long single-stage solid rocket propelled guided missile can shield against multiple targets.
It has its own navigation system, a hi-tech computer, an electro-mechanical activator, mobile launcher, secure data link for interception, independent tracking and homing capabilities and sophisticated radars.
The missile can reportedly hit an enemy from a distance of 40 km.
