Bargarh, August 20 (Odisha.in) Police has arrested at least 51 persons for blocking a road, obstructing vehicles and attacking government officials in Orissa’s Bargarh district on Saturday, official said Monday.
Thousands of residents had observed bandh under the banner of Citizen’s committee on that day in Gosala, Rengali camp, Godbhaga and Atabira town protesting police excesses on them during a demonstration over the deaths of two minor students in their village school.
The dead bodies of the children one of class two and another class three were found in a school at Kumelsingha village, 36 kilometers from here on 12th May this year under mysterious circumstances.
Police resort to lathicharge on them when they refused to move from national high way number 6 at Godbhaga town. At least 40 villagers were injured on that day.
Police had detained 151 persons initially. However only 51 of them were remanded to judicial custody after the local court rejected their bail plea, a senior district police official told Odisha.in.
