Bhubaneswar, August 23 (Odisha.in) Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT University ) has reportedly suspended all the classes of B.Tech fourth year and second year MCA till Monday after a junior student allegedly ragged in a hostel by a senior student Wednesday night.
According to sources trouble started when a first year B.Tech ( Bachler in Technology) student was allegedly become a victim of ragging by a second year MCA( Master in Computer Application) student Wednesday night at King Palace-1, a hostel of the university.
A B.Tech student opposed it. The MCA student retaliated and beat up the senior student. The senior student sustained injury in one of his eye.
Angry with the incident a group of senior students of Mechanical and ETC (Electronics and Telecommunication) rushed to the class room on Thursday and beat up the MCA student.
The situation has become so tensed that the management of the college had to suspend 4th year classes of B.tech(all branch) and 2nd year of MCA Thursday.
We tried to contact the university authority but did not manage to get their reaction into the incident.
It is not the first incident of ragging during this academic session. A fresher at Bhubanananda Orissa School of Engineering (BOSE) at Cuttack has lodged a police complaint Wednesday against some senior students for allegedly assaulting him.
Manoj Mallick, a first semester student of Information Technology stream alleged that he was asked to come over to the room of one of his seniors.
When he reached there some senior students asked him some vulgar questions. When he refused the seniors allegedly abused him. “I was so severely beaten up that I lost consciousness” the boy alleged.
Mangalabag police is investigating into the incident.
