Baripada, August 28 (Odisha.in) Police Tuesday rescued at least 12 Orissa labourers from Gujarat’s Bhalsad area, official said.
The labourers who belong to Mayurbhanj district had migrated to Gujarat in search of job.
They were detained by their employer. The employer was physically and mentally torturing them providing very low wages, district collector Suresh Kumar Basistha told Odisha.in. A police party from the district went to the district and rescued them, he said.
The persons who were rescued are Kedar Dehuri 18, Papu Dehuri 20, Bijay Mahakud 19, Laxmi Dhar Mahakud 20, Ratha Sing 22, Putal Singh 24, Manmatha Hungsda 20, Hari Singh 22, Bidashi Mahakund 22 Shyamsundra Singh 25, and Sankar Singh.
All belong to Badaligan village under Barasahi Police station, he said. Police has also registered a case against their employer, he said.
