New Delhi, September 11(Odisha.in) Delhi has virtually
become the center of political activities as a number of leaders from Orissa recently
have come here to decide their future course of action.
While leaders of different factions of the congress who are aspiring
to become state congress presidents recently met senior party leaders along with their supporters, leaders
of non-congress parties are also frequenting Delhi
either to take franchise of a national party or to join a national party by
impressing the central leaders.
In the meanwhile senior leaders like Orissa Gana Parishad
President Bijoy Mohapatra , Janata Dal leader Ashok Das, former BJP leaders
Prashant Nanda, Anadi Sahu etc. had visited Delhi.
They had several rounds of talks with central leaders of different
political parties such as Sharad Pawar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Mulayam Singh,
Mayawati , Prakash Karat,A.B. Bardhan etc. to explore the possibility of a
third front in Orissa to uproot the BJD-BJP Government headed by Naveen
Patnaik.
The outcomes of the meetings are not yet clear. However, it
has almost become certain that a group of senior politicians belonging to OGP, BJD,
BJP, Congress,Janata Dal etc. from Orissa would soon join the Nationalist
Congress Party.
These leaders feel that in the event of forming the Orissa
unit of NCP, friendly parties like the
RJD, CPI, CPI (M) etc. will join hands with them to fight out the BJP-BJD
combine in the state.
If necessary they can make poll adjustment with the Congress
also to oust Naveen Patnaik in Orissa. There are also possibilities that they
may tie up with Mayawati or Mulayam Singh.
The other political aspirant from Orissa at the moment camping
in Delhi is Kailash Mishra, the promoter
of a well-known NGO “Awareness” who has recently launched Oriya daily “Amari
Katha “.
Mishra claimed to have a good base in many parts of the State through
his micro-financing activities which has got a large number of member beneficiaries.
Basing on his rural base through micro-finance and Awareness, Mishra was
contemplating to launch a political party in the State projecting himself as
the next Chief Minister.
In the meanwhile he had also organised a number of mass
rallies in Bhubaneswar and other
parts of Orissa with the view to translate his political dream into reality.
Mishra has met a number of political leaders as an editor
and socio-economic activist and have discussed with them about the
socio-economic and political situation in the State.
Sources close to Mishra told Odisha.in that since Mishra was
not known among the senior leaders of the national parties, he is meeting them
and interacting with them to explore possibilities of getting their support if
required on the event of forming a regional party.
He is reportedly trying to head the Orissa unit of any
national party which would favour him in this regard. Since all the national
parties have units in Orissa, the possibility of Mishra heading any of the
existing unit seems to be remote.
However, he is likely to ensure support of some
“like-minded” parties in forming a political front in the event of
his launching a regional party soon.
