Bhubaneswar, September 16 ( Odisha.in ) Union minister for Rural Development Raghuvansh Prasad Singh Monday said that the allegation regarding irregularities of Rs 500 crore in different projects under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) is being probed into by the Comptroller and Accountant General (CAG) and action would be taken after receiving the CAG’s report.
Singh revealed this in a press conference at the State secretariat on Monday evening. He said that though the matter has already been referred to the CAG for audit and the report was expected in August, the CAG expressed it’s inability to complete the audit within such a short period for which the time has been extended to October.
Singh was in Bhuabneswar to attend the two-day all India meeting to review the ongoing implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) on Monday at the Secretariat.
A Delhi-based NGO has brought allegation against the Orissa Government and stated that most of the works under the NREGS were not satisfactory.
Union Minister of State for Rural Development Chandrasekhar Sahu and Secretary of Ministry of Rural Development Subas Pani attended the meeting. Secretaries of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj of 10 States also participated in the discussions.
Sing also said the NREGS scheme is being implemented in Orissa’s 24 of 30 districts. The rest six districts would be included during the next phase, he told media persons.
