Bhubaneswar, September 28 (Odisha.in) The Arcelor- Mittal is likely to start civil construction work of its proposed 12 million tonne green field steel Project at Keonjhar in Orissa after mid-2008 .
“The Dastur & co has been assigned the job of preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Orissa project and the report is expected by early next year and we can start the field work any time after mid-2008 “, said Arcelor-Mittal’s India Chief Sanak Mishra in the sidelines of a Seminar on Steel Sector here Thursday.
“If every thing goes smoothly, then the first phase of the Orissa steel Project with six million tones capacity would be go on stream by 2011-12,” , he said.
Stating that the Orissa project reqires 8000 acres of land and the land acquisition process is in progress, Mishra categorically said that there was no question of reducing the project area.
With the state government extending its cooperation, he hoped that the land acquisition process would be completed smoothly.
In the wake of emerging public discontentment over large scale land acquisition for the mega projects, the state government had proposed various companies to reduce their land requirements.
Accordingly, the state government had already reduced 1200 acres of land out of the total land requirements of the proposed Vedanta University in Puri district.
Pointing out that displacement is a major problem in the implementation of the Projects, Mishra said that a Special Resettlement and Rehabilitation Policy is being prepared by his company, which is likely to be ready by October next to avoid opposition to the project.
On the Jharkhand project, Mishra said that the blue print was ready and once the site selection was finalised.
