Kendrapada, October 8 (Odisha.in) Hundreds of residents at Kendrapada’s Pentha village under Rajnagar block organized a week long ‘Yagna’ starting from Sunday to save the village from the onslaught of the crawling sea.
The villagers alleged that the sea is engrossing large patch of their cultivable lands and damaging houses since past ten years. At least 70 of village’s 2000 population have been affected badly, villagers said.
The district administration built wood pillars on the beach to prevent the sea water but that did not work.
“It is only the sea god who can save us” village priest Satrughan Mishra said. That is why we decided to worship the god, he told Odisha.in. The Yagnya or fire ritual started from yesterday will continue for next seven days, he said.
We hope the god will listen to our prayer and save us from the sea, he said.
