Balasore, November 11 (odisha.in) A ray of smile waved in her face when Maunabati Kabi (30), who was kept chained for nearly three years by her parents in a Balasore village, was rescued by the members of ‘Mission Asha’, a Bhubaneswar-based voluntary group.
A four-member team, including two pharmacists, rescued Maunabati from her parental house at Jidtal under Khantapada police station area in the coastal district.
“We found her half-naked and tied with a chain at the courtyard of the house. It is really shocking that she has been kept tied like an abandoned animal since last three years. We rescued her. She was dressed up and brought back to our short-stay home at Bhubaneswar,” told Pradip Champatiray, team leader.
The voluntary group has declared that it would bear all the cost of her treatment and hoped that she would be normal within a year or two. “Till she is fully cured she would stay in the home. Then, she would be handed over to her parents,” Govind Patnaik, secretary of ‘Mission Asha’.
“We have made her health check up at the capital hospital in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. Her all health problems have been scrutinized. She has gynecological problems and also been suffering from anemic and skin diseases. Once these are brought to normal, we would start psychiatric treatment,” he added.
Till she was rescued by the group, Maunabati, mother of a girl, had to bath and do all the works though her legs are chained in the courtyard. Though barbaric, this is the way the villagers and his family members had been treating her only because she was an insane person.
