Jajpur, November 15 (Odisha.in) The K.J Ispat limited located in the Kalinga Nagar, the steel hub of India in Orissa’s Jajpur district resumed normal production process after 27 days of strike by the labourer union.
Production of the plant was completely stopped due to the strike of workers including some officials.
The plant management managed to discuss the issue with labourer union leaders who were on an indefinite agitation demanding the puja bonus and convinced them of a monetary gift of Rs. 250 each.
Satyabadi Acharya, General Manager of KJ Ispat Limited said, “A monetary gift of Rs. 250 was given to each labourer after an agreement between the plant management and the labourer union.
As a whole the paid amount is not termed as puja bonus, but it is a financial gift to the workers. How can the company give bonus to the workers?
The bonus word is not applicable to them as the company is about one and half years old. Besides, the first balance sheet of the company is yet to be out”.
However, we are committed to provide them puja bonus after three years completion of the plant, Mr. Acharya, added.
The workers received their monthly salary for the month of October along with this financial gift yesterday.
Over hundred of workers including some officials and contract labourers under the banner of ‘Kalinga Nagar Mazdoor Union’ (KNMU) were on mass dharana before the plant demanding puja bonus.
They were also holding protest meeting in front of the company gate and opposing the entry of the officials and other company workers.
KNMU President of Krushna Chandra Samal said, “The KJ Ispat limited has agreed to provide us bonus after the completion of three years of the plant.
And an agreement in this regard between the union and the plant management has been signed.” The production resumed on Tuesday, company sources said.
