The Odisha government has decided to offer health insurance cover to working journalists in the state.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched “Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana” on Thursday.
This scheme is being implemented from June 1.
An official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said around 3,233 working journalists from across the state will be given health insurance coverage up to Rs 2 lakh in the first phase.
Under this scheme, at least 5 members of the journalist’s family will now on be protected with health insurance.
A journalist can collect his/her Health insurance card from District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO) of his/her respective district.
A delegation of Bhubaneswar-based journalists met the CM at the state secretariat to thank him for the scheme.
They also requested Naveen Patnaik to launch a pension scheme for the scribes.
