Bhubaneswar,Dec 16(Odisha.in) Bhubaneswar police on arrested six persons in connection with the gang rape on Tuesday night in Unit-8 area, behind the Raj Bhawan here. Police seized a car (ORC-9628) used by the accused to abduct the victim for assaulting her sexually.
Briefing newsmen after the arrest of the accused, Khurda SP Amitav Thakur said that after an intensive hunt, the accused were nabbed successfully. All the five accused involved in the heinous crime were medically examined and forwarded to court along with Sanjaya Kumar Hati alias Sanju, the so called brother-in-law of the victim.
Thakur said that Sanjaya had employed five youths to gang rape her as she had turned down his demand to entertain his friends. The victim, Gitanjali Digal a native of Kandhamal district, who was looking for a job, was staying at her brother-in-law’s house here.
The gang rape was planned by Hati to pressurise the 18-year-old girl into flesh trade, the SP said. Hati allegedly asked the five accused youths to abduct the girl from the house and rape her.
In the FIR, the victim alleged that two of the five youths raped her inside the house before forcibly taking her in a car to a secluded place where others also raped her before she fainted.
Hati deliberately left the house at about 9.30 PM on Tuesday and did not return till the victim was taken away by the five at 11.30 PM, Thakur said.
The police could easily nabbed the alleged criminals as Sanjay had disclosed their names in the F.I.R. This lead to suspicion of the investigating officers that Sanju was a party to the crime, or else how could he know the names of the accused persons who had committed the crime in his absence.
The arrested are Tukadev Beura (39) alias Tukuna, son of Muralidhar Beura of village Namakani under Salepur police station in Cuttack district, Basanta Kumar Swain (28) alias Kulu, son of Ganeswar Swain of village Bhetnai under Aska police station in Ganjam district, Padma Charana Nayak (24) alias Dilu son of Akuli Nayak of village Madhabarida under Gangpur police station in Ganjam district, Guru Charana Hansda (25) son of Chandramani Hansda of village Kenalangi under Harichandanpur police station in Keonjhar district, Simanchal Nayak (30) alias Manoj son of Hari Nayak of village Rajakundu under Bhanjnagar police station in Ganjam district and Sanjaya Kumar Hati (35) alias Sanju.
All the five accused involved in the heinous crime have been forwarded to court under Sections 376 (2) (g), 34 and 506 of the IPC. Besides, Sanju, the so called brother-in-law of the victim will be forwarded under Section 120 (B) of IPC.
