Bhubaneswar, Dec 14 (Odisha.in) The Union Special Secretary of Home Affairs in charge of Internal security M L. Kumawat praised Orissa’s efforts in tackling the Naxals .
“The rate of naxal related incidents in Orissa has been very low and the preparation of Orissa police in dealing with the naxals is excellent”, Kumawat said Thursday after the monthly meeting of the Task Force on Naxals
The Task Force, which meets every month on rotation, held its meeting in Orissa for the first time here at the State Specail Intelligence Wing (SIW) head quarter.
The four hours long marathon meeting was presided over by Kumawat, who heads the Task Force and was attened by top Police officials of nine Naxal affected states –Orissa, Maharastra, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, U.P, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Chhatisgarah.
To a question, he said,” it is not a fact that Malkangiri district is in the grip of Naxal”.
The nodal officers handling the Naxal issue discussed in details the present situation and the problems being faced in tackling the left wing ultras.
The Task Force Chief, Kumawat talking to media persons after the meeting expressed his satisfaction over the steps being taken by all the affected states.
However, he called for more synergy among the Naxal affected states and between states and Center in all fields’ right from Security, intelligence gathering and development programs.
“A focused and comprehensive strategy is needed to combat the Naxal menace”, he said adding training of personnel and intelligence sharing has to be more aggressive.
The Special Secretary expressed his optimism that the Left wing menace would be finished one day stating that the affected states had full commitments and”are prepared well”.
Asserting that the Naxal problem is on the wane, Kumawat said,” I don’t see any reason why the affected states should not succeed in their effort to finish the problem”.
“A democratically elected state can not be whished away by some people having weapons in their hands”, he warned.
“Except four or five incidents in Chhatisgarah, the level of Naxal violence and activities have been reduced and the violence related deaths have also come down during this year”, the special secretary said..
On Friday, the Task Force members would visit the Special Operation Group training Center of Orissa here, said the DG police G.C.Nanda .
