Bhubaneswar, Nov;22 (Odisha.in) IT major, Infosys Technologies Limited Wednesday instituted a Chair Professor in International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar with providing Rs.1 crore .
A draft amounting Rs.1 crore was handed over to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here by Vice-President, Infosys , C.Murthy who heads the Education and Research activities for instituting the prestigious Chair Professor in IIIT , said IT Minister , Surya Narayan Patra.
Other software majors like TCS, Wipro, MindTree etec have also shown Interest in instituting similar Chair Professors in IIIT, Bhubaneswar, a state initiative project similar to the ones at Bangalore and Hyderabad, Patra said.
The IT Minister informed that it was planned to enroll students in the IIIT during January 2008 after getting the final approval of AICTE and it would be a completely autonomous institute with sustained support from industries..
Stating that IIIT Bhubaneswar would offer M.Tech and Doctoral programme in Computor Science, Patra said that AICTE has alareqdy issued Letter of Intent and would visit IIIT camp premises at OCAC building on November 22 (Thursday) for inspection of the necessary academic infrastructure.
He said that the state government has already allotted 23.24 acres of prime land at Gothapatna here free of cost and committed a financial grant of Rs.10crores towards start up capital expenses and a recurring annual grant of Rs.2 crores for the first three years during which the institute should develop enough strength to stand on its own feet.
