Bhubaneswar, Nov, 21(Odisha.in) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday laid the foiundation stone of Global Operation Centre of Genpact, the most coveted and largest BPO company of the country here in the Info city Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
This is the second ground breaking ceremony in Bhubaneswar within a fortnight as far as establishment of ITES hubs by leading IT companies.
The ground breaking ceremony of ICICI group’s Eastern Regional hub with employment potential for more than 15,000 general graduates was held last week.
Genpact’s proposed Global Operation Centre here would provide 5000 strong workforce, said its President and CEO, Pradmod Bhasin.
During the last 18 months, Genpact has already recruited more than 500 general graduates from Orissa for its cetnres in Hyderabad,Gurgaon and Kolkata, informed Bhasin.
Laying the foundation stone, Chief Minsiter Patnaik said it was a great pride and milestone which recognized Orissa’s strength in offering favourable investment climate good infrastructure and a young and talented workforce.
Stating that Plans and pilot programmes are afoot to help students acquire skills right form the school days, Chief Minister said that Orissa was introducing very effective training programmes for enhancement of communication and analytical skills of college students who were about to graduate.
“Orissa produces some 50,000 general graduates every year, and through these hubs ,more than 25 per cent of the pool will be able to secure gainful employment in the first go in sectors like ITES , BPO, Financial services , insurance , retail , tourism , hospitality sectors etc”, he hoped.
Among other , the Industries minister Biswa Bhushan Harichandan, IT minister Surya Nayrayan Patra, Industry secretary, Asok Dalwai, IT secretary, Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra , and Senior Vice President , Genpact Ashok Tyagi were present on the occasion.
Tyagi said that Orissa was emerging as one of the important centres in the country as far as IT and ITES sectors was concerned.
