Bhubaneswar, November 15 (Odisha.in) The Orissa Pavilion installed with two aesthetically designed Big Boats was inaugurated by Debasis Nayak, Minister, Information & Public Relations to-day at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
The exterior design of the Pavilion is aesthetically soothing to the eyes of the visitors, which is based on the famous Boita Bandan theme.
The Boats are replica of the ancient Jumbo Boats once used for marine trade with Java and Sumatra, which are now parts of Indonesia.
The Pavilion is decorated with large size ‘Patta Chitras’ which are made by artisans from Raghurajpur, the heritage village of Orissa.
The traditional Chitrakars of Raghurajpur have done a marvelous job with their paint and brush on the tassar fabric as well as the boats of Orissa. The entrance has been designed as ‘Dolamandap’ which is used as the centre for socio cultural activities in the Orissan villages.
As per the theme of this year for the IITF, the first two hexagons display the processed food and agriculture products of Orissa followed by the stalls from Industries Department, Energy Department, Information & Public Relations Department, Tourism Department, Tata Steel and Nalco.
All these participating organizations have been exhibiting documentaries/ films of their achievements through plasma televisions installed at their respective stalls.
Also on display are the Orissa tassar, silver filigree ornaments from Cuttack and appliqué works of Pipili. Tribal jewellery that is appreciated and sold across the country and overseas is also showcased in a befitting way. The famous Sambalpuri Saries are also available at the fortnight long fair.
Besides an excellent collection of statues by the various artisans/ societies are on display to woo both domestic and foreign visitors.
Others who were present during the inauguration include L. N. Gupta, IAS, Resident Commissioner, Government of Orissa, New Delhi, Parag Gupta, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Governor, Orissa other senior officers of various participating Public Sector Undertakings.
