Keonjhar, October 20 ( Odisha.in )The “Jodi Mohuri” an unique musical instrument is going to be vanished due to lack of encouragement by the government. It is basically used in the start of any auspicious occasion like marriage, puja etc.
The Jodi MahuriIt is basically made from ” Champa”, “Khaira”, “Piasal” wood said Krushnachandra Naik.
“It was their are family business, but it could not meet their bread and butter. People only remember him while playing of this musical instrument is needed, basically on auspicious occasions,” he added.
Odisha.in contacted the artists who were playing ” Jodi Mahuri” at a Durga Puja pandal in Keonjhar. During interaction we find the artists facing difficulties to keep up the art alive as it has lost its demand.
“They could earn as low as a labor. They meet their financial needs through cultivation only. They have preserved a hundred years old “Jodi Mohuri” of there grand father period” Krushnachandra said.
In other time they are being neglected. “Now a electronics era the “Jodi Mohuri” became useless as there are many substitute electronics instrument available in market like Casio or Yamaha keyboard” Abhiram jena associated “Jodi Nagara” artist said .
Many years back these instruments were badly required in auspicious occasion but the present generation feel ashamed to use these musical instruments, said Dr. Bimbadhara Behera a retired professor.
“Due to financial crises the artists were not in a positio to get new instruments of ” Jodi Mohur” and “Jodi Nagar” and even the Government is not taking necessary steps for the upliftment of these artist by giving financial support or encouragement” said Kamalakant Praharaj a school teacher.
Those who have kept up the art of playing “Jodi Mahuri” and “Jodi Nagar” despite all odds, told Odisha,in that they can give full amusement to audience if they will be provide adequate support .
