Bhubaneswar, October 5 (Odisha.in) The chief administrator of Jagannath temple in Orissa’s Puri has warned the authority of the Iskcon Temple in Ludhiana for organizing a chariot festival of lord Jagannath in that city without following the tradition.
“It has come to the notice of Shri Jagannath Temple Administration, Puri that your organisation will organise Rath Yatra of Shri Jagannath Mahaprabhu on the 6th October, 2007” a letter sent to Iskcon Temple, Bindravan Road, Civil Lines, Ludhiana said.
“In this connection, I am to say that according to the ancient tradition & Sastras (Sanskrit scriptures) the world famous Rath Yatra of Shri Jagannath Mahaprabhu is performed once in a year in the month of Asadha Sukla Dwitya corresponding to the month of June/July every year” it said.
“The tradition is being followed without break since time immemorial. All the Jagannath Temple established in this country & abroad follows the same tithi for celebration of Rath Yatra organized by the Shri Jagannath Temple at Puri” it said.
“Any deviation from the prevailing practice will arouse public discontentment in the whole country in general and of hindus in particular” the administration in its notice said.
“Under the above circumstances, I would therefore request you to please refrain from celebrating the Rath Yatra of Shri Jagannath Mahaprabhu on 6th October,2007 for the greater interest of the countless devotees of Lord Shri Jagannath as well as for up keep of tradition of Shri Jagannath Temple, Puri” the administrator writes.
