Balasore, October 6 (Odisha.in) The dawn to dusk bandh observed by people in Balasore Saturday demanding the establishment of a government medical college and hospital paralysed life affected movements of train and vehicles, official said.
The action committee’s 12 hours bandh was to mount pressure on State government.
The bandh was successful with closure of all business and commercial establishments as well as paralysing of the bus communications. However the train services were normal after nearly half an hour interruption in morning, an agitator said.
All political parties, trade unions, women, student and youth organizations also supported the call given by the action committee for the cause.
Almost all shops barring essential ones ,business establishments, banks , financial institutions ,post offices , telecom office while were closed schools, colleges and educational institutions were also closed . The shutters of the ATM counters of banks too were down. Passenger buses and Lorries were off the road.
Government offices and courts while were opened yet they could not function following pressure of the agitators.
Although report of any kind of violence was not received from any part of the district, there are reports that agitators damaged some plying vehicles.
Three persons were taken into custody when they were trying to picket the railway track. 201 UP and 2509 DN –Bangalore – Gauhati although detained in Balasore station they left the platforms nearly after 30 minutes. The train 468 down was detained at Basta , sources said .
It may be noted on the issue while there have been agitations since two years by several organizations, the ‘action committee’ is however the premier one.
