Bhubaneswar, October 04 ( Odisha.in ): Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Orissa unit leaders on Thursday demanded that the State Government should come out with a white paper on the recent floods to apprise the people steps taken for the relief of the people.
Addressing a media conference at the party office here Steering Committee Chairman Bijoy Mohapatra and senior leader Ashok Das highlighted the “utter failure” of the Naveen Patnaik Government in tackling the worst flood situation in several parts of the state including Balasore, Jajpur, Rayagada.
They alleged that for the first time in the history of Orissa, the state government appealed to corporate houses to supply tarpaulins in the flood affected areas instead of the government coming to rescue of the people.
They alleged that the Government should make it clear about the companies who were approached by the Government and to what extent they have come to the rescue of the people.
The NCP leaders alleged that the State Government had utterly failed to provide cooked food to the flood affected people. In many of the places the relief materials have not reached at all and there were no arrangements for rescue operations due to which a number of people have died.
Ashok Das and Bijoy Mohapatra , in presence of all the members of the steering committee alleged that hundreds of people died of cholera in tribal dominated districts . ” The Government should feel ashamed of people dying in cholera in Orissa in the present century “, they added.
The NCP leaders also demanded CBI probe into the waiver of loan to Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys, a company owned by Baijayanta Panda, a Rajya Sabha member and a close associate of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
“While the agricultural lands of poor farmers were being auctioned for their failure for repayment of small amounts of bank loans, waiver of loans to the tune of Rs 2,300 crores is really shocking. All involved in this multi-crore rupees scam should be brought to the books,” they demanded.
The leaders claimed that their party would come out as the most viable alternative of the BJD in the State and would be able to establish a pro-people Government for the betterment of the people of Orissa.
