Balasore, September 20 (Odisha.in) Orissa High Court has asked government advocate to produce detail report on Binapani Mukhi, the innocent woman who has been lodged in Balasore district jail since last six months.
“A division bench of HC has sought the report regarding the arrest and conviction of Binapani within seven days,” said lawyer Prabir Das. “The next hearing of the case will be on September 27,” he added.
Das had filed a PIL in the HC following media reports. The reports had highlighted the plight of Binapani.
He however said that in the PIL he has sought immediate release of innocent Binapani, an impartial inquiry into the whole incident, action against the erring officials, adequate compensation for the victim.
“Besides, I have also requested the court to issue a guide line for the police officials, so that the section 21 of the constitution, which prescribes right to life, should not be jeopardized,” he added.
Jaleswar police had allegedly arrested Binapani, a resident of Panchughanta village, in place of her sister-in-law Minati Mukhi, the real accused, on March 8, this year.
Subsequently, she was sentenced two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fined Rs 2,000 by the first track court of Jaleswar.
