Jagatsinghpur, September 15 (Odisha.in) Cell phone service providers have installed hundreds of towers near schools in the district of Jagatsinghpur by violating the rules and regulations.
According to rules such towers cannot be erected near schools and educational institutions.
Many mobile towers have been installed near educational institutions without our knowledge, sub-Collector, Jagatsinghpur Debendra Kumar Singh said.
However BSNL, Air Tel, Tata Indicom, Reliance, Air Cell, Hutch are few of the companies who have installed their towers near schools in the district some even without informing the district administration.
Three towers of different cell phone companies have been erected near DAV public school and Sri Auribond Sikahya Asharam.
Similarly one mobile tower each has been installed at Sarswati Sisu Mandir and S.K. Academy School at Jagatsinghpur town.
Villagers of Mohiuddinpur have expressed that one mobile tower has been installed near by the village UP school.
These are only few cases but hundreds of towers have installed nearby schools, colleges and other educational institution of this district, social activist Ashok Jena told Odisha.in.
The private service providers have purchased private lands on higher rates and erected their towers without the knowledge of administration, he said.
BSNL has installed its towers in its own telephone exchange. However some have been installed on private land, sub divisional officer (telecom J.K.Majhi said.
Officials of the private mobile service providers were not available for comments.
