Jagatsinghpur, September 8 (Odisha.in) Miscreants Saturday attacked at least ten women at port town of Paradeep for refusing to give them donation for the ensuing Ganesh Puja, the women alleged.
Dozens of women from villages Hasina, Biswali, Mangarajpur, Bhutmundei , Nuagada go to different places of Paradep and sale their vegetables, fishes, dry fishes and stationery items.
Some anti socials demanded money from them when the women refused they assaulted them, the women alleged.
We refused to give them money because we already gave them that several times past days, the women alleged. Earlier puja organizers were seeking ten to twenty rupees from each of us now they are demanding one hundred rupees to two hundred rupees, they said.
When we refused them the miscreants misbehaved us, tore our clothes, ransacked our shops at Tarnei market, they said.
The women rushed to the local police station to lodge a complaint but police did not hear forcing the agitated women to sit on dharna, they said. Local police acted after the district superintendent of police intervened, they said.
“Police has already arrested six persons for attacking these women, superintendent of police Y.K.Jethwa told Odisha.in.
