Keonjhar, August 30 (Odisha.in) Driven by acute poverty and not being able to treat her five month old child a woman in Orissa’s Keonjhar district committed suicide consuming pesticide.
20 years old Baisakhi Bhuyan who belongs to primitive Bhuyan tribe and a resident of Bayakumutia village under Banspal block 30 kilometers from here was upset after her husband who works as a labourer could not arrange money for the treatment of her only child who has a ball of flesh (looks like a tumor).
The boy who has developed the illness since past few months. He was often crying.
Recently they met a doctor who told them that it requires operation to make the boy normal. The operation could cost 25,000 rupees.
Baisakhi and her husband Rasananda live under below poverty line. The district administration provided them a financial help of only Rs.2000 which were inadequate for the treatment.
Baisakhi saw his son crying for pain. She was upset and consumed pesticide Tuesday.
Dr. K.C. Pal who was treating the child said the boy was suffering from a birth disorder “memingo cele”.
