Bargarh, August 27 (Odisha.in) Congress party has demanded a judicial inquiry into the alleged police excesses on villagers in Orissa’s Bargarh district who were peacefully protesting the death of two school children in mysterious circumstances in their region.
At least 40 villagers were injured on August 18 after police resort to lathicarge on them when they allegedly refused to move from national high way number 6 at Godbhaga town.
The villagers were protesting police inaction into the deaths of two school children at Kumelsingha village, 36 kilometers from here on 12th May this year.
The dead bodies of the children one of class two and another class three were found in the local school under mysterious circumstances.
“We want judicial inquiry into this incident” after visiting Kumelsingha with a group of congress leaders and discussing the local people’ state congress President Jaydev Jena here said.
The crime branch works under chief minister Naveen Patnaik and truth will never come out if it probes the incident, he said.
After talking to villagers I came to know that police had resorted to lathi charge on them without any provocation. Even policemen attacked women and children brutally, he said. We will bring this to the notice of congress observer V. Narayan Swami, he said.
Speaking to media persons Jena also highlighted government’s failure in different other sectors including the rising incident of foeticides and failure to check fake drug rackets.
Others who were present include Prakash Chandra Debta, Ex. Minister, Sriballhav Panigrahi, former Member of Parliament, district congress president Subal Sahu, former member of legislative assembly Jadumani Pradhan senior congress leader of the district Sureswar Satpathy and Sadhu Nepak.
