New Delhi, August 19 (Odisha.in) Senior congress leader from Maharastra Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare was today appointed governor of Orissa replacing Rameshwar Thakur, a Rashtrapati Bhawan communique said here today.
Thakur has been transferred and appointed as Governor of Karnataka, it said. Born on December 10, 1928, Bhandare has been elected to Parliament number of times from Maharastra.
He was also twice the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, and chairman of the United Nations sub-commission for protection of minorities and prevention of discrimination, and chairman of the UNESCO appellate tribunal headquartered in Paris.
Mr Bhandare, who started his political career in 1952 by joining the National Students Union of India, was also the chairman of the AICC legal cell.
