Deogarh, Aug. 18 (Odisha.in) While the wildlife lovers and environmentalists are worried over death of wild elephant Motilal, residents Cheplipali and Suguda Gram Panchayats under Tileibani block in Deogarh district are worried over rampaging of the wild herd in their localities.
In fact, after monkeys, the fear of attack by pachyderms has started haunting the people of the two GPs barely a few km from Deogarh town over last one week.
The wild herd has damaged at least 25 houses and standing paddy crop over 50 acres of land. Villagers said that the wild herd went berserk and destroyed everything forcing the terrified villagers of Kamamunda to shift their belongings to the school building besides spending the night in the school.
The villagers of Cheplipali GP however have been arranging food for the villagers.
In a latest incident on Saturday, the elephants barged into village Kadamdhar in the afternoon and ran amok after villagers tried to chase them away.
In the melee that followed one Pachindra Sahu was injured by an elephant. He has suffered fracture on his leg and has been admitted to Deogarh hospital.
Besides admitting that they are coming back despite all measures, Forest Ranger Gouranga Sahu told Odisha.in that efforts were underway to chase away the elephants.
