Jajpur, August 17(Odisha.in) A 12-member delegation led by Paradeep ADM Dillip Kumar Mohanty, Senior General Manager of Posco King Sik Cho and Kujanga Tahasildar Debashis Singh visited the site of Tata’s proposed steel plant at Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur district.
They visited Tata’s transit rehabilitation colony Thursday at Trijang, Sunsailo and Danagadi. Tata has been provided 2000 acres of land in Kalinga Nagar, the steel hub of Orissa, for its six-million tonne steel plant.
The officials were accompanied by ADM of Kalinga Nagar Birakishore Panda and land acquisition officer Narayan Chandra Dhal.
“We discussed with the displaced people to know about the rehabilitation measures taken by the Tata. We also consulted with the officials from district administration how did they tackle the people during land acquisition process,” told Mohanty, Paradeep ADM.
“The Posco officer accompanied me too discussed about the rehabilitation and resettlement (R & R) policy adopted by the Tata,” Mohanty added.
But the officials surprisingly didn’t discuss with the leaders of Bisthapan Birodhi Janamanch (BBJ), which has been spearheading the tribal movement against industrialization in K Nagar.
“They should have discussed with us if they wanted to ascertain the actual cause for protest. We won’t allow any steel plant to come up in our area as the residents displaced by Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) are yet to be properly rehabilitated,” claimed Chakradhar Haiburu, president of BBJ.
“We will allow the company which wants to protect our livelihood, our profession and rehabilitate us properly,” he added.
