Bolangir, November 11 (Odisha.in) Police has arrested an engineer in the district of Bolangir for harassing a peon of his department who died committing suicide.

This has come to light after police found a note the peon left before he killed self.

Giri Rout, a peon of Minor Irrigation Project (MIP) office in Patnagarh committed suicide on Thursday.

He had left a suicide note where he mentioned that he was regularly harassed by the sub-divisional officer (Assistant Engineer) of Minor Irrigation Project (MIP) his boss as a result of which he committed suicide. In the note he holds him responsible for his suicide.

Wife of the peon also stated that her husband had been complaining of mental torture and harassment by the SDO and was under depression.

Sources said Rout had been requesting the SDO to release his GPF but it was not released.

''He was instead scolded by the SDO on a regular basis. Even though my husband would be present in the office, the SDO treated it as absence,'' alleged Rout's wife Jayashree.

SDO S.N. Agrawa said though the GPF amount of Rout was released, it was somewhat less than what Rout had expected. Meanwhile, Executive Engineer J.J. Satpathy promised a probe.

S.N. Agrawal S.D.O., Minor Irrigation arrested by Patnagarh Police after the complaint of deceased's wife Jayashree Rout, said Police circle Inspectoer Dinabandhu Sethi.

However S,N, Agrawal said the deceased peon Giri Rout was frequently remaining absent and was warned normally to maintain office in order and the complaint lodged against me was a conspiracy of a group of young politicians.
