AITA Championship Tournament goes tougher

On Tuesday, though two matches, one each in doubles and girls quarter final were tough, but the rests, especially boys singles were seen the seeded players outplaying their contestants.

Balasore, December 25 (odisha.in) The quarter final matches of Boys Singles Under-14 scheduled to be held on Wednesday in the on going All India Tennis Association (AITA) Championship Tournament in Balasore is going to be tougher with all the seeded players ousting their opponents in the pre-quarter final held on Tuesday.

As one-sided matches were the order of the day, out of 16 U-14 boys, eight 'seeded' players had posted easy wins.

On Tuesday, though two matches, one each in doubles and girls quarter final were tough, but the rests, especially boys singles were seen the seeded players outplaying their contestants.

Starting from the first match, top seed Surya Pawan (Andhra Pradesh) led the way with a 6-1, 6-0 demolition of Shakti Ray (Orissa) in U-14 pre-quarter final.

In girls section, second seed Siuli Upadhyay (Orissa) crushed A Ankitha (Tamilnadu) in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 in the first quarter final for girls singles U-14.

While in the second quarter final match Abhishekta Pandey (UP) had to strike hard to oust Shivani Dabas 7-6 (7-4), 7-5, in a pre-quarter final of boys doubles Manraj Singh Zandu / Md Shaharyar Salim defeated Abhisek Naik / Amlan Roy at 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-3.

Vice-president of Orissa Tennis Association Satyajit Mohanty encouraged the players during the pre-quarter final of boys - singles and doubles and quarter final of girls - singles. In the evening there was a grand celebration of 'X-mass' in the Modern Public School ground.

The tournament is being organized by Balasore Tennis Association under the auspices of the Orissa Tennis Association.

Similarly, Surya Pawan / Anshu Ku Bhuyan got walk over from Atreya Lahiri / Rohan Karnani; Nishant Rebello / Akshat Vijay bt K Sai Sandeep / Ramineni MMK 6-2, 6-3; Rahul Romani / D Shiv Satvik bt Shukrit Guha / Harsh Gurnani 6-3, 1-6, 10-5; Marcos Gomes / Shiddharth Reddy bt Vishal Das / Ayush Bansal 6-1, 6-0.
