Tata Archery Academy's training camp at Duburi from Sept-4

This programme will not only spot archery potential in the predominantly tribal area but also generate interest for the sport in the state, the company said in a press release.

Bhubaneswar, September 2 (Odisha.in) For the first time Tata Archery Academy is conducting a fifteen-day long Training-cum-Talent Search camp at Indira Gandhi Ground, Duburi in the Jajpur District of Orissa. The camp where the prestigious Arjun Award winner Mr Sanjeeva Singh is joining as trainer will continue from September 04 to September 19, 2007.

This programme will not only spot archery potential in the predominantly tribal area but also generate interest for the sport in the state, a company release said. Archery is one of the popular traditional sports amongst tribals. Tata Archery Academy will be coaching nearly 100 participants during these fifteen days camp.

In Tata Steel sports is not only a way of life, it is a part of life. Established in the year 1996 at Jamshedpur, Tata Archery Academy is relentlessly inspiring talented youth of the country to achieve excellence in archery through sustained scientific training. The academy not only spots the potential archers in the country but also nurtures them to bring them to international standards.

Promoting archery in the national interest, The Tata Archery Academy has all the requisite training facilities like, highly efficient coaches, archery ground with flood lights, state-of -art equipment from India and abroad as well as hostel and multi gymnasium facilities for its cadets.

After a vigorous selection process being carried all over India the academy inducts boys and girls at the age group of 13 to 18 years for the 4 years course and on the basis of their performance it further extends the training. During the four years of training the cadets are also imparted with formal education.

Throughout the year the cadets of Tata Archery Academy participates in number of national and international championships and wins awards and accolades for the State as well as Country.

Some of the major championships where the cadets have participated and have won several medals are Junior world Archery Championship held at United Kingdom in 2004, Senior World Archery Championship held at Madrid, Spain, 2005, Asian Archery Championship held at New Delhi, 2005.

Recently, one of the Tata Archery Academy cadets Mr Jayant Talukdar has been ranked no 1 in India & 3 in the World. He has won gold in the World Archery Championship held at Croati, 2006.
