Heavy rains, triggered by a low pressure development over nothwest Bay of Bengal, lashed Odisha on Tuesday (Aug 7) crippling normal life.
Since the last 24 hours, incessant rains have resulted in water-logging at all low lying areas across the districts, including twin cities Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Educational institutions remained closed across Cuttack and Khurda on Tuesday, whereas road communication was snapped at many places.
Between Monday (Aug 6) evening and midnight, Bhubaneswar recorded 102 mm rainfall. Severe waterlogging was reported at Jaydev Vihar, Sashtri Nagar, Nayapalli, CRP and Paika Nagar.

In the last 24 hours, Puri received the highest rainfall of 305 mm so much so that the Badadanda near Srimandir was inundated.
A 100-feet wall around the Indradyumna Tank, a 50-feet wall near the Gopinath temple side, a 60-feet wall adjoining the Radhakrushna temple collapsed in the pilgrimage city.
A culvert near Kankadamendhi in Daspalla block of Nayagarh collapsed. Traffic was badly hit between Badala and Chakapadar due to the incident.
A man reportedly died, while his wife sustained serious injuries when a wall of their house collapsed due to heavy rains at Bedasahi village in Panchupali panchayat under Ghasipur block in Keonjhar district.
Flood threats are seen in the swelling Jalaka and Subarnarekha rivers in Basta block of Balasore. The water level has crossed the danger mark of 5.5 metre in Jalaka, while the water level is at 8.86 in Subarnarekha against the danger mark of 10.36 metre.
Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre has issued heavy rainfall alert in the next 24 hours in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda and Sundergarh districts.
