The Odisha government has decided to distribute smartphones among farmers across the state.
Civil Supplies and Cooperation Minister Surya Narayan Patro on Friday (July 27) told media that the initiative will be taken to strengthen communication between the government and farmers.
Under the scheme, the government will be providing regular updates in Odia language on best farming practices, agricultural production, weather conditions and other crucial information to the farmers.
He said approximately 2,000 smartphones will be provided in each district.
The project will cost the state government a budget of Rs. 3 crore.
A high-level committee will oversee the successful implementation of the scheme.
Last year, the Naveen Patnaik government had distributed around 60,000 mobile phones among farmers via Regulated Marketing Committees (RMCs).
