The Odisha government is determined to make cancer care affordable for the people of the state.
In the process, chief minister Naveen Patnaik will be investing Rs. 1000 crore in the next 5 years.
On May 6, Tata Trusts, a charitable organisation of Tata Group founders, had entered an agreement with the state government to set up a specialized cancer care hospital in capital city Bhubaneswar where patients will get world class treatment facilities, along with modern amenities. .
Chief Secretary Aditya Padhi had a meeting with Tata Trusts officials at the state secretariat on Monday (July 9).
“Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre (AHRCC) in Cuttack will be upgraded to a comprehensive cancer care hospital where complex cases will be handled,” said Padhi after the meeting.
“Meanwhile, the district hospitals will be equipped with oncology speciality units that will offer treatments like radiotherapy and chemotherapy,” he further said.
Besides, all government medical colleges will be upgraded so as to provide cancer diagnostics and facilitate screening and early detection of the disease.
The state government and Tata Trusts will be setting up Odisha Cancer Care Foundation on 50-50 shareholding basis to oversee the project works.
