Jagatsinghpur, Dec 12 (Odisha.in)Thunderstorms and lightning struck parts of coastal Odisha on Wednesday killing seven people and leaving over a dozen injured, officials said.
The storm accompanied by strong wind and rains lashed the coastal Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada district at about 3.30 pm and unleashed fury for about an hour.
Four people including a couple and a minor were killed in port town of Paradip in the district of jagatsinghpur when lightning struck them, while three others were killed by lightning bolts in Pattamundai and Rajnagar blocks of Kendrapada district. Those killed were daily wage earners, officials said.
The storms also uprooted more than a hundred trees, snapped electricity and damaged dozens of houses in both the district. Civic personals were pressed into services to clear the downed tree and debris.
