Bhubaneswar, July 9 (Odisha.in) At least five people are missing even over a week after Maoists attacked Andhra’s greyhound police force and sank their boat raining bullets in Malkangiri’s Balimela reservoir.
The boat had on board 66 people. Of them 28 survived. Search parties retrieved the boat and brought it to the shore Tuesday. During search operation by police and soldiers at least 33 dead bodies were recovered.
Three and four of the bodies recovered had bullet injuries and it appears majority died of drowning” Malkangiri district superintendent of police Satish Gajbhiye told Odisha.in
The attack by Maoists rebel on June 29 was one of the biggest attacks in Orissa where officials said at least 150 incidents of Maoists related violence took place since 2005 killing at least 97 people including 40 rebels. Fifteen out of thirty districts in the state have been affected by some degree of Maoists violence.
