Toronto, July 8 (Odisha.in) Orissa Governor Muralidhar Chandrakanta Bhandare praised the role of Oriyas living abroad in the development of their mother land.
Addressing the 39th annual Convention of The Orissa Society of the Americas (OSA) at
Brampton’s Rose Theatre at Toronto in Canada as a guest speaker Bhandare said Oriyas living in North America have brought a great deal of recognition to Orissa— its culture, its history, its current affairs.
“Spread your wings wider, fly longer, and prosperity will come to Orissa,” he said. “But what is most important is that you never forget the nest you flew from, that nest which is Orissa.”
Citing the status of the poverty in Orissa he said roughly 47 people in the state still live under below the poverty line and we have to work together to give them better lives.
Orissa is the most peaceful state in India and culturally, it is the richest; minerally, it is the richest; yet economically, it is the poorest.
More than 400 North American Oriyas attended the function which is followed by various cultural programes.
