Singapore, April 24 (Odisha.in) On 5th April 2008, Saturday, a 130 stronghold of Oriya people residing in Singapore celebrated the Utkal Divas with lots of enthusiasm and patriotism at Khalasa Association, Singapore.
The successful event was organized by SingOriya Committee members. Registration of the guests started around 5:30 pm onwards. Guests were given the SingOriya’s yearly publication magazine during the registration.
The much awaited cultural program which was the most attractive part of the whole event soon started after the snacks. Anchor, Bibhu Datta Rout engaged the guests through out the exciting evening with various activities.
Program started with our own patriotic “Bande Utkala Janani” song where by every guest stood up and sang along with the performers. After that, Puravi Panda chanted Bhagabat Gita followed by Ganesh Bandana by Parama Sahoo.
Later a series of cultural activities were performed such as Odissi dance by Puravi and Pallavi, and ‘Mahalakhmi Struti’ by Ankita, Preeti and Aiswarya from the Oriya picture “Jai Jagannath”.
Number of dance items was performed and the audience was enjoying throughout the evening which ended by 10:30 pm. Little girls Asmita, Jessica, Sanskriti, Tammna, Aniketa and Monica performed various dance sequences based on the Hindi Film songs. Also, Jagganth Ojha performed solo male dance for a Hindi film song.
Various quiz and fun full activities were arranged to keep busy all the guests. Oriya community organized ‘Drawing’ competition among the kids which was most loved by kids and parents.
During mid of the event, Sanjib Panda introduced Natabara Sahoo as incoming president and Alok Kumar Panda as Vice President. Later Sahoo informed the gathering about the achievements and upcoming events.
There were seven government delegates from Orissa including Mr. Sarat Sahoo, Director of Orissa Planning Commission, J K Mohanty, MD of Swasti Group and Trilokya Mishra, MD Nayagarah Sugar factory were invited to attend the function.
The delegates shared some of the successes that Orissa and the Oriya people have achieved in recent times as well as plans that the Orissa Government has in coming years.
The SingOriya committee and the community highlighted the delegates the need for the Bhubaneswar Airport to be upgraded to “International Airport” status and requested the message to be brought back to the Orissa Government.
The dinner was served after 9.00 pm with wide varieties of menu with mouth watering items.
In the end around 10.30 pm, guest started to depart with lots of happiness and excitement. Rest of the members who stayed late enjoyed with enjoyed with song and dance for the celebration of success evening.
Overall, the event was a grand success!
