Bhubaneswar,Apr.14 ( Odisha.in) Thousands paid tearful homage to the assasinated Judo Coach Biranchi Das whose body was taken in a procession through the Gautamnagar and Kalpana area slums as well as the Judo Hall on Monday afternoon.
Biranchi’s body was cremanted at Swarga Dwar in Puri according to Hindu rites.
Talking to Odisha.in a number of slum dwellers said that Biranchi popularly known at Butu Babu to them was a part of their lives. He was always helping the needy people in very many ways. He was not allowing any family in the slum areas to starve.
He was looking after many poor children and was financing for their studies and was providing them training in judo and other atheletics.
Since he was a student of B.J.B. College, Bhubaneswar, Biranchi was involved in judo and was the founder of Orissa Judo Association.He along with his students had built Judo Hall near the Orissa State Musuem, brick by brick.
During past years around 1,100 students trained by him had joined the Indian Army, Orissa Police, C.R.P.F. and other organisations, which was a rare success story.
Biranchi was running two small eateries in side the Bhubaneswar Court complex to meet the expenditures of the students who were staying in Judo Hall and were getting traing from him.
His life was devpted to Judo and sports. He was upright and was fighting against oppression and injutice in his own way.
