Bhubaneswar,April 1(Odisha.in) This year Nandankanan is visited by 17, 32,702, it is an all time high in the history of Nandankanan. Last year’s number was 15, 08,887. The collection of revenue also touched record high of Rs. 2, 02, 32,605.
It is heartening to note that Nandankanan is becoming more and more popular year after year.
Keeping this in mind high priority would be given during coming financial year to augment the visitor’s amenities. An online chlorination plant is installed to provide safe drinking water to the captive birds and animals.
It is proposed to install more number of safe drinking water kiosks by way of providing cool filtered chlorinated water at strategic locations. All the existing drinking water kiosks would be upgraded.
The Rotary club of Bhubaneswar is supporting installation of two cooled filtered water kiosks during this summer. One six acre meadow is developed at a centrally located place for the better circulation of the visitors.
Adequate number of sit outs, drinking water kiosks, trash cans, toilets would be developed for the visitors. Orissa Tourism is also supporting construction of three toilet complex at the strategic locations for the convenience of the visitors.
More than 50 numbers of benches were installed at shady locations last year. It is proposed to install more than 150 benches during coming financial year for the convenience of the visitors.
In addition to this the visitors path, stand off barriers would be constructed in all the enclosures to make it safe both for the animals and the visitors. It will also enhance the aesthetics.
To make the park more attractive for the visitors an ultra modern Aquarium, an Elephant enclosure , Aviary for the Vulture and Brahminy Kites were dedicated to the public last year.
This year an ambitious animal exchange programme is being pursued. A new enclosure for Giraffe is almost at the verge of completion.
Giraffe would be procured from Alipore Zoo by end of May 2008. For the first time Giraffe would find place in the list of animal collection of animals at Nandankanan.
