Kendrapara,Jan 31(Odisha.in) President of Orissa Sahitya Academy eminent poet, educationist and journalist Dr. Deepk Mishra is no more.
He passed away of Wednesday in his home town Kendrapara following a massive heart attack.
He was 69,His body was broght from Kendrapara to the Sahitya Akademi office in Bhubaneswar from where it was taken to Swargadwar in Puri for cremation.
A postgraduate in history from Allahabad University, Mishra started his career as a lecturer in Kendrapara College.
Poerty was his passion from his youg days and he was contributing poems to a number of established literay magazines regularly.
When Biju Patnaik started his daily newspaper the Kalinga from Cuttack ,under editorship of eminent leftist poet Manmohan Mishra, Deepak joined as an important member of the editorial department.
His colleagues at that time included famous poets like Bhanuji Rao, Jnanendra Burma, Krushna Chandra Mohanty etc.
Subsequently famous novelist and literary critic Surendra Mohanty joined as the Editor og the Kalinga and Mishra worked with him for few years.
Subsequently he joined as lecturer in Kendrapara College till his retirement in 1998.
During his long literary career from 1961 to 2008, he had received several literary awards for his poetic creations. He was also awarded the National Sahitya Akademi award for 2007 for his book ” Sukha Sanhita “.
He was to formally receive the award on February 21 at Delhi. Earlier he was awarded with State Sahitya Academy Award for his poetry collection ” Arana Mahishi”.
Though he was selected for Sarala Award for his book ” Nidagha Jatra “, he had declined to accept the award. Mishra’s sad demise was mourned in the lierary, educationist and journalist circles in the State.
A large number of his readers and admirers have also mourned his death.Deepak is the elder brother of senior journalist Dulal Mishra, who is well known as editor of a number of daily newspapers published from Bhubaneswar and Balasore.
