Sambalpur, Jan.06 ( Odisha.in) Two Maoisits were killed in encounter with police at Bajibahal village under Jamankira police station in Sambalpur district on early Sunday morning.
The police recovered 3 SLR and two 303 Riffles from the deceased Maoists, according to Sanjay Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Sambalpur.
After the recent incident of armed maoists torched a forest range office and several parked vehicles at Badrama, about 40 km from here, under Jamankira police station limits on Friday night, the police have started intensice combing operation in the area to trace the Maoists.
According to police, a group of 20 Maoists, including two women, attacked the office at about 11 PM and beat up six forest guards and locked them up in the room before ransacking the premises and setting it on fire.
They later went to the official residence of forester Kahnu Charan Nath and knocked at his door.
Sensing trouble, Nath ran way from the house through the backdoor and informed the officials.
But before than the ultras forcibly took away Rs 15,000 and gold ornaments of Rs 30, 000.00 from Nath’s wife Namita and told her to ensure that her husband behaved properly with local villagers. They also snatched his official revolver and a walkie-talkie.
Before leaving the place, they set ablaze 15 vehicles including the official one of the forest department.
The remaining 14 had been seized by the department for illegally transporting timber.Seven jeeps and four motorbikes parked on the premises were set ablaze.Files and documents of the range office were also damaged in the fire.A combing operation has been launched in the area.
The Maoists also beat up Chhbindra Barik, a forest guard and took away cash worth Rs 5,100.00 and two mobile phones from him.
