Bhubaneswar, Dec 21(odisha.in) National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco), the flagship PSU of the Ministry of Mines, has announced the upgradation of its mines and refinery capacities.
According to a press release, Nalco Board has approved the enhancement of alumina refinery capacity from 21 lakh tonnes to 22.75 lakh tonnes, by upgrading its 4th stream from 5.25 lakh tonnes to 7 lakh tonnes.
Correspondingly, the bauxite mines capacity shall be expanded from 63 lakh tonnes to 68.25 lakh tonnes. The project shall take 35 months for completion with an investment of Rs.409.07 crore.
Meanwhile, the 2nd phase expansion at an investment of Rs.5100 crore is in full swing.
This will raise the bauxite mining capacity to 63 lakh tonnes, alumina refining capacity to 21 lakh tonnes, aluminium smelting capacity to 4.6 lakh tonnes and power generation capacity to 1200 MW. All these projects will be commissioned in phases and completed by December 2008.
Nalco has also zeroed in on Indonesia for setting up a 5-lakh tonne smelter plant and 1250 MW power plant.
