Kendrapada, Dec 9 (odisha.in) Three senior scientists of Geological Survey of India (GSI) visited Mantripada village under Derabishi block in Kendrapada district on to test the soil and inflammable liquid flowing out from a tube well.
They collected samples of soil and flowing liquid at Mantripada. The district administration of Kendrapada on last Thursday urged the director of state’s Geological Survey of India (GSI), Bhubenswer to depute a team to this village to test the ground- water after some inflammable liquid objects like oil or natural gas were coming out from a tube-well in the village.
The scientists, Dr S. Ray, G. Niogi and G.P. Mahakuda took samples of soil and liquid from tube well.
“We will send the collected samples to the laboratory of GSI in Kolkota for its further examination. The emitted gas was methane gas, which is inflammable”, said the scientists.
A villager Nalimani Nayak dug a tube well in his house. But, hot-water like oil or natural gas came out from the ground in the tube-well.
Some curious villagers put a matchstick and found the hot-water was burning like oil for which the Sarapanch and other villagers urged the district collector to visit the place.
The district collector, Kashinath Sahoo , BDO of Derabishi, Narotama Behera and other senior officials rushed to the village Mantripada on Thursday.
Meanwhile, large numbers of curious villagers rushed to Mantripada to witness the tube well and the flaming fire. Many villagers put a match -stick on the flowing liquid and found it was burning.
