Balasore, November 29 (odisha.in) Binapani Mukhi, the woman from Balasore who was wrongly convicted and later released from jail after Orissa high court intervened, is now in the news again.
After more than two years of jail sentence, she has now become a victim of torture by her own husband. And the reason is very peculiar too.
The 38-year-old woman of Panchughanta village under Jaleswar police station area has complained before the police that her husband Gourishankar Mukhi has been torturing mentally and physically without any fault of hers since she is released from jail.
“He is now demanding the money that he had spent to release me from the jail custody. Being motivated by his second wife he have been torturing me and attacking me with wooden planks,” the FIR Binapani lodged with the police read.
Police said, she was seriously injured and hospitalized after Gourishankar hit her head with an iron pipe when he was denied of the money.
“It is not a single incident. He has been beating me regularly. Even he has threatened me of dire consequence if I failed to give him the amount he spent on me,” Binapani alleged before the police.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case and arrested Gourishankar in this connection.
“A case under section 498 (a) and 506 of IPC has been registered against Gourishankar. He has been arrested and produced in the court,” Balaram Nayak, officer-in-charge of Jaleswar police station, said on Wednesday.
It is to be noted that the High Court asked the jail official of Balasore to release Binapani after hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a social activist following media reports on September 7 last.
The reports carried the plight of Binapani, who was convicted wrongly in an excise case instead of another woman. She was released from jail on September 29.
