Jajpur, Nov 23 (Odisha.in) Bibhu Prasad Mohanty, Inspector-in-Charge of Jajpur police station in Jajpur district, was caught red-handed by Vigilance officers while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from Debadutta Mishra of Market Chhak under Jajpur municipality in his office residence.
The bribe money was recovered from his pocket. This apart, the vigilance sleuths also recovered of Rs.12, 620 from his table. According to allegation by Debadutta, his father-in-law, Govind Sarkar has a dispute over his homestead land with hisneighbour, Kulamani Sarangi.
Kulamani was threatening Govind to demolish latter house with Jajpur town police help. Jajpur police station IIC, Mr.Mohanty also time again was threatening Govind with dire consequence.
Debadutta met IIC, Mohanty and sought his help to remain mute on the issue. The bribe was demanded for not threatening Govind time and again.
The other money seized from the office residence also indicated that Mohanty had allegedly collected that money for showing undue favour to others.
The office of Mohanty was also searched on Thursday and he was arrested. Vigilance DSP, B.K. Patanaik, Inspector, Maheswar Sethy, Md. Housen and U.K. Panda conducted the raid.
