Two of the security stewards sustained serious injuries during the erection of the power plant inside the plant premises, which was being carried out by L& T Company following hit by the Hydro machine.
The injured have been identified as Sunil Kumar Swain (45) and Subhransu Dubey (40). The injured were admitted to a private hospital at Cuttack in a critical condition.
Tension prevailed in the Kalinga Nagar Industrial complex area immediately after the mishap.
One platoon of police force has been deployed at the site. Unrest among the workers was on when reports last came in.
“After being seriously injured in the plant premises, both Sunil and Subhransu were rushed to a private hospital in Cuttack without any primary treatment at the government hospital, located in the industrial complex area jurisdiction,” told K.C. Mund, Inspector-in-Charge of Kalinga Nagar police station.
“Though the situation is under controlled, discontentment is brewing among the JSL plant workers. One platoon of police force has been deployed at the site to maintain strict vigil,” Mr. Mund added.
Jindal Stainless Contact Labourers Union (JSCLU) President, Bidyadhar Mohanty said, “Accident in Jindal Stainless Limited in Kalinga Nagar is chronic and it is pioneer in hijacking the injured after the mishap.
The plant is not taking safety measures for the work force despite repeated pleas by the workers and our union. That’s why the accidents in the JSL are taking place regularly. Besides absence of a factory inspector at the steel hub creates an opportunity for the steel companies in the Kalinga Nagar steel hub to encash out of the situation”.
In every accident why the JSL is avoiding local government hospital, situated in the industrial complex area in admitting the injured for primary treatment, he questioned. “This practice is to hide the mishap”.
It should be stopped immediately, otherwise the company has to a heavy price for the same”, Mr. Mohanty threatened.
