Bhubaneswar,November10 ( Odisha.in ) Throwing aside the appeals of People For Animal and other animal right organisations, thousands of goats were sacrificed before Dakhina Kali in Veergovindapur village, located at a distance of 45 kms from here in Puri district , which is the native place of Director General of Police, Gopal Nanda on late Friday night to invoke the blessings of the Goddess.
A number of members from the State Council of Ministers, judiciary services, administrativeservices and police services were present during the annual ritual of Goddess Dakhina Kali.
Though the district administration had served a notice to the management of the Dakhina Kali temple not to sacrifice any animal during the Kali puja festival, the temple management went ahead with the animal sacrifice rituals.
However, strategically, the electronic media was kept at a bay by the police and local villagers and were not allowed to shoot the ritual killing of animals.
Even some cameracrews were threatened by the local people to quit the place. Even some police men were seen whispering and directing the local people not to allow the electronic media to shoot.
