Bhubaneswar, November 3 (odisha.in) After a series of floods that kept Balasore district administration in its toes, something good has happened for the senior administrative officials of the coastal district. They have been
flooded with awards.
The district administration has got ten awards out of seventeen given by the State government on the occasion of Orissa Disaster Preparedness Day and National Day for Disaster Mitigation.
The Balasore district administration has in fact been adjudged as first by the Orissa State Disaster Mitigation Authority (OSDMA) for carefully handling the floods and timely rescue and relief operations.
Collector Alekh Chandra Padhiary has received a memento and certificate from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at a function organised in Bhubaneswar.
After receiving the award Padhiary told the media persons that out of 20 flood hit districts, Balasore has tackled the calamity in a better way which can be accessible from its casualty figure.
“The district witnessed four severe floods within one-and-a-half-month. While over 15 lakh were affected, only 15
persons did due to drowning and wall collapse. Our officers and personnel from the disaster rapid action force could save thousands from drowning due to their timely effort and no epidemic was reported,” he said.
District project coordinator (DPC)of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) Pratap Kumar Mishra and settlement charge officer Kulamani Mishra have been awarded for successfully coordinating relief distribution.
“We could manage the floods successfully only after the state government provided relief materials in time. Specially, we should be thankful to special relief commissioner Nikunja Kishore Sundaray, who personally coordinated relief and rescue operation staying at Balasore. Only for him relief materials could be distributed through helicopter,” the DPC said.
“I must thank the people of Balasore for their cooperation for handling such devastating floods. Now we would speed up work under national rural employment guaranty scheme, so that labour class people could get enough work for the sustenance of their family,” the collector added.
Among others, Director of Aama TV Biplab Mohanty, Zilla Parisad member Nishikanta Dash, Sarpanchs Sumanta Behera, Radhakanta Pradhan, Fire officer Gouranga Barik, Alok Giri and Sabuja Panda from Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) also were felicitated on this occasion.
