Bhubaneswar, November 2 (odisha.in) The 13th Puri Beach Festival at Puri will start from 23rd November this year. Odisha.in has received a press release circulated by J K Mohanty Chairman Hotel & Restaurant Association of Orissa. The release we are publishing here as it is for our readers.
It was started way-back in 1993 where an idea was mooted for creating a mega event which would attract lovers of culture, cuisine, handicraft, handloom to this State and that itself would give a boost to the tourism sector.
Basing on this idea the Puri Beach Festival was started presenting the art, craft, culture, sand art, tribal art and all forms of the art of the State on one platform to attract people from other states.
Slowly the festival become attractive to other states and today other states have also become a part of the Puri Beach Festival and they came forward to display their art, craft, culture at the Puri Beach Festival.
The festival today has become a national event and has been listed in the Calendar of Fairs & Festivals of the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India. Since 1993 the festival has been receiving a grant of Rs.5 lakh from the Central Govt and Rs.5.00 lakh from the State Govt.
Grants are released only after production of utilization certificate submitted by the organizers to the State & Central Government. The accounts of the Association are well maintained and annually audited.
In the last 12 years, the festival has gained reputation in the International market as the HRAO sends mailers to almost all leading tour operators promoting India world-wide.
Puri Beach Festival is just one event of HRAO to create awareness of Orissa as a destination. This year we are happy to announce that besides exhibition of cottage industry’s products, handloom, handicrafts of different states. Even private airlines have also shown keen interest to promote their companies in this festival.
The cultural programmes in this festival are mainly traditional art of different states which is the main attraction and rarely promoted in such mega festivals anywhere in the country.
Besides traditional art and culture from different states, special entertainment programmes presented by Indian Idol (03), Amit Paul & Ankita, Isha Deol with Hema Malini & Troupe, Dhiman Sankar Ballet from Kolkata, Bhangra Dances from Punjab, Siddi Dhamal from Gujurat, Purulia Chhau from Bengal, Bharat Natyam from South, all different forms of Odissi, Kathak, Folk Dances of Orissa, Sambalpuri, Goti-pua, Danda Dance are some of the special attractions of this year.
Special attention has also been given to promote the women power of the State and for the first time we are going to have Beach Cricket played by girls, Beach Volley by girls, Beach Kabadi by girls etc.
To involve the local people a country boat race among the local Nolias is also going to be a part of the Beach Festival this year. The Sports Department has been actively supporting us to make the festival a grand success and people can also enjoy Para Sailing during the beach festival.
